our favourite pubs & restaurants IN KENT

From charming country pubs to Michelin-starred restaurants, our local area in Kent has an incredible selection of places to eat. These are some of our favourites:

o  Duke of Cumberland – our lovely local pub in Barham, a five minute stroll down the road – 01227 831 396

o  The Pig at Bridge Place - a couple of villages up the road is one of our favourite places for lunch, The Pig at Bridge Place (pictured below). Their ‘25-mile menu’ provides the opportunity to try some excellent local produce - 0345 225 9494

o  The Bridge Arms - a gastronomic pub-restaurant a couple of villages up the road, “focused on seasonality and provenance” with food “cooked over charcoal, produced from a local Kentish woodland” - 01227 286534

o   Updown Farm – stylish farmhouse boutique hotel with a delicious ‘conservatory restaurant’ serving Italian-inspired cuisine that we love for lunch or dinner: “Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven.“ - 07842 244 192

o   The Goods Shed – excellent restaurant and farmers market / deli in Canterbury – 01227 459 153

o   The Fordwich Arms - we love this Michelin-starred pub-restaurant just outside Canterbury started by the same team as the Bridge Arms above. Their seasonal menu “focuses on provenance, showcasing the best of local Kentish ingredients” - 01227 710444

o   The Zetland Arms – traditional pub on the beach at Kingsdown (pictured above), with tables outside and sea views – 01304 370 114

o  Rocksalt – a fashionable, modern and gastronomic restaurant with beautiful views of Folkestone harbour – 01303 212 070

Gibson’s Farm Shop is approx 10 minutes drive away towards Wingham. There’s also a village shop in Barham and a wide variety of shops and supermarkets in Canterbury (Waitrose is about 15 minutes drive, for example) - including Corkk on Burgate (a few doors up from the main gate to Canterbury Cathedral), a wine merchant specialising in English wine.
